You may shake your head once you pass through the enormous imposing gates and the (seemingly) mandatory security guards. Did we just drive in Europe? One could describe the Peacock Gardens as a folly or simply a labour of love, creating a little slice of Europe amongst the hustle and bustle of Asia. Either way the guests and restaurant patrons are the winners with this well managed offering.
Our evening was a small celebration for the two of us so we had high expectations of our second visit to this establishment. The staff at the Peacock Gardens are wonderfully attentive, however the lack of other patrons can make the ‘swarm of service’ a tad daunting. We elected to sit out in the balmy evening air and enjoy the soothing operatic background music (next time I must get the CD title!). It is a pleasant change to find such an extensive wine list in Bohol so we took our time over an aperitif selecting our wine and accompanying meals.
While we were deciding we were presented with complimentary bread and an accompanying spread that would make my cardiologist have conniptions! Our selection of entrees included smoked salmon and pasta both of which were fresh and delectable. Our mains were very much carnivore heaven as we find it difficult to find quality meats in Bohol (especially lamb) and we are often seduced towards this repast when it is on offer. In this instance I chose the fillet steak and my dining companion chose the lamb shank special. In each instance the meat was of extremely high quality and perfectly cooked. All in all the meal was wonderful and stopped us in our tracks from trying the desert menu….Possibly next time.
